Monster Hunter Rise recently launched for the Nintendo Switch and fully utilizes the power of the hybrid console. While Monster Hunter Rise doesn’t visually impress as much as Monster Hunter: World did when it launched back in 2018, Rise still manages to look really good and handles online multiplayer superbly. Capcom has confirmed that there is a PC port slated to launch in early 2022, but still, fans wonder if Monster Hunter Rise is coming to consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Monster Hunter Rise was built from the ground-up for the Switch by Capcom using the RE engine that was used to develop games like Resident Evil 7 and the Resident Evil 3 remake. Like other Nintendo-platform Monster Hunter releases, there’s a very little chance that this game will come to Sony’s or Microsoft’s consoles.
Not only has Capcom not mentioned other releases besides PC, but Monster Hunter Rise is also a Switch console exclusive. It’s meant to be played on the go, hence the quick-play design of it all. It takes way less time now to accept a quest and finish that quest when compared to World. It wouldn’t really make sense for a game like this to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S unless there were some substantial changes to make it feel more like a home console experience.
However, with that being said, Capcom is known to release an expanded version of Monster Hunter games in the West, but since Rise released worldwide at the same time, Capcom will simply continue to update the game with new monsters and story content to fill in the gaps and bring players back every few months. There could be a small chance that a version of the game with all of its DLC could come in an ultimate package for home consoles, but fans might be waiting a while for that.
Since the PC version is coming in 2022, Capcom will focus its efforts on making sure that that port runs well on Steam, so Monster Hunter fans don’t have to experience the same issues that plagued the PC port of Monster Hunter: World.
Some fans might be disappointed to hear that PlayStation and Xbox consoles will probably not see this game on the platforms, but, on the bright side, there’s likely to be another entry similar to Monster Hunter: World that brings the series back to those home consoles. There are two Monster Hunter teams with one working on portable entries and the other working on console games, so, hopefully, an announcement will come soon enough.
Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch and a PC port is expected to launch in early 2022.
