After Call of Duty: Warzone integrated with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a ton of new features were added to the game. New weapons, operators, and cosmetics flooded into the battle royale environment along with a season filled with new content. Despite this, many Call of Duty: Warzone fans are requesting a change back to the way the game was before.
While some good has come from the update, fans are associating many of Call of Duty: Warzone’s bugs with the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War content. Meta issues, balance concerns, and many other problems can be linked directly to the game’s integration. This has provoked some fans to call for a new game mode to be added to the Call of Duty: Warzone menu.
In a post by melon_b0y on Reddit, the Call of Duty: Warzone fan makes an argument for a “Classic Mode” to be added to the game. This mode would include only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare content, which removes most additions made during the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War integration. The user cites the FFAR and AUG meta, balance concerns, and even argues the nostalgia value that users would buy into. Fans in the comments disagree with the prospect, but not because it would not work. Many fans believe that Activision and Raven Software would never include this as a game mode due to the potential lost in profit that may appear.
Call of Duty: Warzone has a negative perception at the moment among much of the game’s community. From content creators backing every other weapon in the game to the developers only patching items on a select list, fans believe that the game is already headed downhill. Many problems have, from a community perspective, been tactically ignored due to the item being sold within the game’s bundle store.
Further, many Call of Duty: Warzone players bought Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. This means that they would want to use their weapons, and many of them are fine with the current balance. To make the issue even more complicated, a classic game mode would cause delays within the game’s SBMM system, resulting in prolonged load times and underpopulated lobbies.
While the idea has some merit among part of the community, many fans believe it would divide the game’s players. Problems regarding Call of Duty: Warzone would only grow more complicated, and the developers may only service one game mode at a time. While a classic mode may be appealing, some members of the community have doubts about its viability.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
